The Best Essential Oils For Your Skin Type

Essential oils have been used for centuries to treat a number of skin types and conditions along with other ailments. As they are highly concentrated, they can be intensely nourishing and can improve the overall condition and appearance of your skin.

These oils are highly concentrated and need to be diluted in order to prevent a reaction, before using them at home it is best to read the manufacturer label. There are two ways you can use your essential oils at home to treat your skin: you can mix essential oils with a carrier/base oil such as almond or grapeseed oil and then apply to dry skin after having a bath or shower or you can add a few drops of essential oils to your bath (always read the instructions according to the manufacturer). With the added steam from the bath, your body will also benefit from the essential oils.

Carrier/Base oils

Almond oil – This is suitable for all skin types, particularly dry and sensitive skin.

Grapeseed oil – This is suitable for all skin types, particularly oily.

Jojoba oil – This is suitable for all skin types, particularly sensitive.

Avocado oil – This is suitable for dry, dehydrated and mature skins.

Essential Oils

Chamomile, Geranium and Lavender oils are analgesics and therefore are great for treating sensitive skins and eczema. Chamomile and Lavender oil can also treat psoriasis as well as sunburn.

For dry, mature skins I recommend Frankincense oil. It is good at treating scarring and pigmentation and it also helps to protect skin cells as it is an astringent.

For combination, oily and acne prone skins, I recommend Lemon, Orange, Rosemary, Geranium, Lavender, Rosemary, Tea Tree and Ylang Ylang. These oils are detoxifying, bactericidal and help to regulate sebum production. Citrus based oils such as Lemon and Orange should be used with caution as these can cause photosensitivity if skin is exposed to sunlight after application.

These are just a few of the many essential oils that can help with the overall condition and appearance of your skin.

At Moreton Place Beauty & Wellbeing, following a consultation I will choose the appropriate oils based on your individual needs. You may wish to use aromatherapy as a treatment to help improve symptoms solely associated with  treating a skin type/condition or you may want assistance with improving other conditions too. The great thing about aromatherapy is that essential oils have many therapeutic benefits which can provide relief from multiple physical and mental conditions.

To achieve the best possible results with aromatherapy I highly recommend booking a course of four treatments.

I look forward to seeing you soon for your aromatherapy treatment.
